His name was Scarf!” ((Let it be known for the record that Mr. Me: “You heard him, Dad, oldest in the front!” Little Mister: “Let’s walk down the hallway in order from oldest to youngest. I don’t want you to get the wrong impression of us): Little Mister: “Mom, I think Dad is asking you if you want half his beer.”Īnd this (has nothing to do with beer, thankfully. kk (to me): “Do you want to share a frosty?” Little Mister: “It’s so cool! It has an adult area where you can get lots of different beers! You’ll love it!” Little Mister: “Mom! Come and see this fort me and Daddy built out of blankets!” In our house, that looks something like this: And out of nowhere they will say the funniest things to you, based on conversations you never knew they were listening to. These little sponges pick up on everything around them, even when you think they are engrossed in an episode of Paw Patrol. (Lucky for us, we can still spell out entire conversations to each other.) Us being silly with Snapchat (aka: “the button with the ghost on it” Also part of being a parent is cursing the day your child learns to spell and you can no longer talk in C-O-D-E. Let your 3 year old think up their own activities.Part of being a parent is watching in awe as your little person learns and grows, and discovers the world around them. Yes, it’s more than OK, it’s incredible to let kids play alone. Turn snack bars into shapes and practice using a knife at the same time.Play airplane or train with your kitchen chairs.Make a ramp with cardboard and drive matchbox cars down it.Tape painter’s tape sticky side out on a window or wall and have your child stick what they find on it. I don’t know of a better activity for a 3 year old than this one! Hunt for magnets with a magnetic wand in a bowl of uncooked oatmeal or rice.Mix sidewalk chalk and other toys for pretend play outside.Take markers and paint onto the porch for art outside.What are the best activities for 3 year old ? Go to a local elementary school and play at the playground.Draw with chalk on black construction paper.Call Grandma ( or Aunty, Uncle… you get the picture.).Write in a journal with markers, stamps, and crayons.Paint your toenails with kid-safe nail polish.Play with water, rice, beans, gravel, etc… in your water table.Play with a light table ( easy DIY here ).What are some easy things to do with a 3 year old? I am going to try again in a month when her brother returns to school but in the meantime, she has quiet time, earlier bedtimes and lots of simple activities like these peppered throughout the day. With her brother home from school for the summer, my attempts at forcing the issue have been met with refusal. Extra time in fact because she decided when she turned 3 to give up naps.
